Over the course of her residency, Sorsha Galvin sculpted and molded over 180kg of clay using her own body as a tool, gradually creating a new work titled Back to Nowhere throughout the duration of the exhibition.

The piece draws on the boat as a potent symbol long associated with the final journey and the carrying of souls. In many traditions, the boat represents not only passage but also the body itself: a vessel, a container whose integrity defines a boundary. Its hollow form creates a cavity in the surrounding water, much like our bodies displace air.

Back to Nowhere emerges from these associations. It is a meditation on transformation, where the body is transfigured into another object one that speaks to absence, presence, and the liminal space between.
